Democracy & Society is the student-run journal of Georgetown University’s M.A. in Democracy and Governance. We publish analysis on democracy, governance and civil society by students, scholars and practitioners, online throughout the year and in an annual print volume.
Our Mission
Our mission is to connect research and practice in the democracy and governance field. We give graduate students a place to publish rigorous, accessible analysis, and we bring their work into conversation with established scholars and practitioners.
- Timely analysis. Commentary on elections, institutions, civil society and democratic backsliding, written for a broad audience.
- Diverse perspectives. Voices from every region of the world, with room for authors who write from the margins of mainstream debate.
- Student-led, academically grounded. Articles are selected and edited by graduate students, with faculty support from the Democracy and Governance Program.
What We Publish
Online analysis. Short articles and commentary published throughout the academic year. Browse all articles, or explore them by topic or by region.
Annual print volume. Each year the journal publishes a themed volume. The current one is Volume 22: Democracy from the Margins.
Who We Are
The journal is edited by an editorial board of M.A. students in Democracy and Governance, with Faculty Director Elton Skendaj. The student staff is supported in its work by the Georgetown Government Department’s Assistant Director. Meet the team →
